Armor of God
The armor of God is more than a Sunday school picture. It's Paul's description of what every believer needs to stand firm in spiritual battle. In this study we won't begin with what we've heard, what tradition teaches, or what someone else says each piece represents. Instead, we'll open Ephesians 6:13-18 together and let Scripture, cross-referenced with Scripture, show us exactly what it means to take up the whole armor of God: the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, the sword of the Spirit, and prayer. Each piece gets its own in-depth study, using the same Observe, Locate, Study, Apply method throughout, so by the end, you're not just reading about the armor. You're equipped to wear it.
Ephesians 6:13-18 (KJV)
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
The Belt of Truth
The belt of truth is the piece Paul lists first, and that order matters. Before we ask what it represents, let's ask what the Bible itself says truth is, where it's found, and why it holds everything else in place. No inherited definitions, just Scripture, examined for itself.
